ULAY a retrospective exhibition: Booze cooperativa and Goethe Institut Athen, present the work of Uwe Laysiepen-aka ULAY- from 1970 to 2006.
The work of ULAY is in a lot of ways autobiographical. He has captured personal moments and transformed them to performance or snapped them into photographs. His performances are symbolic. Behind them lies a conception of the body, the existence and definition of identity, the coexistence of the two sexes and on
many occasions pain. Even his relationship with Marina Abramovic he turned into a series of performances.
His photographs closely combined with performing overcome the limit of the medium itself and free themselves from sentimentalism, cynicism or humanism.
