Draw music draw!! is a group show presenting seven artists that explore the relation between drawing
and other mediums such as video, animation, sculpture and most importantly sound and music. How can drawing be used with sound?
How can drawing be inspired by a specific music? How does the perception of a drawing shift when juxtaposed to a music or a sound?
In this exhibition The medium stops being only the starting point for a research to become the element around which the research revolves.
It is focused on the gesture of drawing and the materiality of this gesture, and its relation to other mediums.
The current debate around drawing that tends to pose the question “what is drawing?”
and its importance as a practice, interest us in the way
that it gives a space to reflect upon the medium through which many artists think, in other words to reflect upon the thought process itself.
From the pleasure of the affects in music to the search for forms and shapes in drawing, the exhibition presents attempts to think drawing in
relation to sound, and vice versa. This take emphasizes on the artist’s body as a receptor of pleasure: the pleasure is perceived in the gesture
of the drawing, the gesture of a body in a moment of high affectionate turbulence, the one that maintains the tension which builds up desire.
In general, the works in the exhibition create moments of cohabitation, tension, or of direct inspiration when image and sound are juxtaposed.
They also focus on the sculptural capacity of drawing, whether directly challenging the architecture of the exhibition space, standing as sculptures
by themselves, or physically adapting to a wall in the space.
Draw Music Draw!! refers to the cheering slogan of an audience that is chanting in one voice. Cheering perhaps to the performer or to oneself,
the cheering becomes the expression of the collective experience lived by an audience referring to a concert perhaps, or the expression of an encouragement to oneself.
